NSW stuns with 34GW of wind, solar proposals for New England renewable zone
A call for expressions of interest to build out the New England renewable energy zone in northern New South Wales has been “swamped” by 34 gigawatts of proposed projects – more than four times the capacity needed for the planned 8GW zone.
The New England REZ, based around Armidale, is one of at least five renewable energy zones planned by the NSW Liberal government to replace its ageing coal fleet, most of which is expected to retire in the next 10 years.
State energy minister Matt Kean said the EOI attracted more than 80 registrations of interest, which showed huge investor confidence in the state’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.
“The overwhelming response shows this is a once in a generation opportunity to attract enormous investment into regional areas, cementing NSW’s renewable energy future,” Kean said.
The minister said the REZ was expected to deliver around $10.7 billion in investment and around 830 operational jobs, as well as 1,250 construction jobs each year, while also pushing down electricity prices and providing landowners with alternative income streams.
While the New England REZ is the biggest in the state, the Central West Orana zone, located around Dubbo and Wellington, attracted an equally impressive response of 27GW wind, solar and storage proposals for just 3GW of capacity in its EOI last year.
NSW is also looking at REZs in the Hunter and Illawarra regions, and in the south-west of the state. Formal auctions of capacity and positions in the state’s various renewable energy zones will begin in 2022.

Japanese eco-tourism resort taps ClearVue solar glass for greenhouse
The patented solar glass technology of Australian clean energy innovator ClearVue Technologies has been selected for use in a greenhouse at a high-profile eco-tourism and “wellness” resort in Japan.
Perth-based ClearVue said last week that it had received an order for 187 of its glazing panels, to be integrated into the roof of a strawberry greenhouse at the Aqua Ignis Hot Springs project in the Fujitsuka area of Wakabayashi-ku, Sendai City.
ClearVue’s technology incorporates a clear lamination layer between glass panels that drives the incoming wavelengths of UV and IR light to PV cells located around the edge of an integrated window unit to generate electricity.
As the company has demonstrated with a “world-first” clear solar glass greenhouse at Murdoch University in Western Australia, this is ideal for agricultural applications, as the clear glass lets in natural sunlight, while diverting the wavelengths that can be harmful to plants for conversion into power.
The solar greenhouse at the Aqua Ignis project is expected to generate around 8,573kWh of renewable energy a year based on modelling for the region, while also contributing to the eco-tourism credentials of the resort.
“The Aqua Ignis Hot Springs project… is set to become a significant tourist attraction in the region with visitors able to visit the strawberry greenhouse and experience ClearVue’s world leading solar PV glazing solution,” ClearVue said in a statement.

Why You Should Contact Your Electrician If You Have an Emergency
An emergency electrician is a qualified electrician who provides 24/7 commercial and residential electrical services with no prior appointment required. Electricians can repair or advise on a sudden electrical difficulty, particularly during weekends, holidays, and when office hours are closed. They are usually called by residential customers or commercial customers who have made a mistake in adding or removing circuits to a circuit, tripping an overload, or creating a dangerous situation. Some electricians may offer additional services, including wiring inspection; they are skilled at detecting problems that may be dangerous and know how to handle power surges safely.
An electrician’s qualifications depend upon their area of expertise. Some sites require additional training or licensing, especially for electrical contractors. Some general contractors have completed a basic level of education. In contrast, others have completed a two-year apprenticeship or specialty program and earned their professional certification through the National Association of Home Inspectors. An emergency electrical contractor’s license is often renewed periodically by requesting a reinstatement application from the state licensing board.
The best way to determine if a particular emergency electrician has the proper qualifications is to ask for references. Call each electrician’s customer reference number and inquire about his/her experience, training, certifications, special training, and licensing. It’s not uncommon for some electricians to falsify their credentials, so it is essential to ask both positive and negative feedback about the electrician’s work. If several different people recommend the electrician, it’s probably best to hire him.
An electrician’s equipment should include a sufficient supply of pre-cut, drywall-sized pieces of wire and a variety of tools. An electrical emergency requires at least one circuit breaker. Most electricians will have extra tools on hand that are designed for use in electrical emergencies. When the electrician purchases new tools, he or she should provide a list of the tools and their brands. For example, if an electrician buys a saw with a certain brand name that is not on the list, he or she should provide a brand name check to ensure the saw is the right size and style.
Once an electrician has the electrical issue under control, he or she can usually take care of the problem by repairing or replacing damaged parts. There are three types of circuit breakers: electricity, natural gas, and telephone wire electrical issues. An emergency electrician will have the tools necessary to service all three types of wiring problems. Electricians are also responsible for installing new circuit breakers when needed. Electricians are often the first people to respond to electrical issues that occur in a home because they can respond quickly and make arrangements for immediate service.
It’s important to remember that many electrical emergencies happen without warning. There are times when an electrician may be called on to resolve an emergency when there is no one else to be found. This can happen in homes and businesses, on farms, in businesses, and anywhere there are people. In order to make sure that an electrician responds when it is needed most of the time, there are steps that you can take to make sure the electrician knows where to contact you in case of an emergency.
One of the best ways to make sure your electrician knows which locations to contact during an electrical emergency is to let the contractor know your contact information so that the contractor can contact you. If your business and residence are listed in a phone directory, you should inform your electrician of this so that the electrician can contact you in case of an emergency. You may also want to make sure the power lines that you use are shut off during an emergency so that the power lines are safe from damage during an electrical emergency.
It is very important for your safety as an owner of a business to let your electrician know where all the electrical hazards are so that they can be addressed before there are any accidents. All power points should be grounded to prevent damage to the power lines and also the people who may touch the power lines or the equipment. You can easily teach your electrician which hazardous areas to avoid and which hazardous conditions to use to avoid electrical hazards. When you have an emergency electrical repair completed, the safety of the workers is much more likely to occur.
How to calculate solar rebate?
In Western Australia, there is no solar rebate as such. But one can apply for the federal government solar rebate. Subsidies and financial incentives make solar power investment in Western Australia thriving.
Financial incentives are available as rebates and feed-in tariffs. Bigger the size of the power system, the more power it produces, hence more rebates.
Anyone who purchases solar panels and inverters recommended by Clean Energy Council and gets it installed by a Clean Energy Council installer is eligible to receive the government rebate solar Perth.
The solar system they own should be less than 100KW and all the components must be new.
This amount will help to offset the initial upfront cost. Once the system is up and running, one will receive a solar feed-in tariff for every kilowatt (kWh) they export back to the electricity grid.
The government rebate to solar Perth is not fixed. Its value is directly dependent on STC (Small Technology Certificate) valuation. Solar rebate is seen more as a subsidy or financial incentive.
Depending on a system’s generation capacity and STC value, the solar rebate Perth customers get a subsidy ranging from $1940 in a 3.9kW solar system up to $3312 in a 6.6kW solar energy system
These ‘rebates’ are offered in the form of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). The RECs that a residential solar system receive are called Small Scale Technology Certificates (STCs).
The government rewards the solar energy system owner with certain amounts of certificates (STCs) for producing clean, green energy. The amounts of certificates depend on the solar energy system’s ability to offset carbon emissions over the next 10-years.
STCs are tradable certificates and can be traded with fossil fuel generators for a discount on the cost of the solar system. This scheme enables one to save a lot of money in the installation of solar power. The STC scheme took effect in 2017 and will end in the year 2030.
One has to ensure that solar rebate Perth WA is clear and broken down, so that there is no price variation based on STC fluctuation from the time of signing to the time of installation.
Many solar companies have clauses hidden into their Terms & Conditions of sale which state that the client will make up the difference if there is a reduced variation in the STC value.
One has to make sure that STC value, STC quantity and an STC total amount one would receive as discount is clearly mentioned in the contract.
STC value would be the then market price which varies from $34 to $40. STC quantity would be the number of certificates a particular system is entitled for its green efficiency. For example, 92 certificates for a 6.6kW solar system.
STC total amount is the subsidy that one would receive which would be $3312 ($36 x 92 certificates)
Calculate Solare Rebate
Calculate solar rebate by using the following formula:
Total Solar Array Combined Wattage x 1.382 x the current STC multiplier of 10-years / 1000. The resulting number is the maximum STC’s one is entitled to. Multiplying the number of STCs with the current market value will give the rebate amount.
For a 6.6kW system, the calculation would be: 6660 x 1.382 x 10 / 1000 = 92. A 6.6KW system would be entitled to 92 STCs.
By multiplying the number of STCs with the market valuation of $36, would give an amount of rebate that the solar system would be eligible.
92 STC’s x $36 = $3312.
The most common Solar rebate Perth WA 2021 for residential homeowners based on a $36 STC valuation and utilizing a 390W solar panel variant for multiplication is as follows:
ARRAY SIZE
STCs
SUBSIDY
3.9 KW 54$19406.6 KW 92$331210.5 KW 146$523913.3 KW 183$6597
Depending on the market value, a typical solar rebate Perth for a 6.6KW solar system would be around $3500. If the gross system cost is $10,296, then the net system cost after rebate would be $6800.
Solar feed-in tariffs are not the same throughout Western Australia. It varies according to location. In Perth and the south-east metropolitan area, feed-in tariff is 7.135c per kWh of electricity your system exports to the grid.
When solar was new in the country, the homeowners were given a high feed-in tariff of up to 51c per kWh based on the energy they sent back to the grid.
Solar rebate is dependent on the state we live in and the size of the system. The zone we live in also determine the STC value. Lower the zone reduced solar rebate. Zone rating for small scale solar panels is as follows:
zone Rating
1 1.622
2 1.536
3 1.382
4 1.185
Calculate solar rebate by another way, finding out the number of STC based on zone rating is:
kW solar panels x 11 (11-year deeming period) x zone rating x Spot STC price. If the deeming period is short, one will get lesser STCs. For Example, in 2018, the deeming period was 13 years, in 2019 it is 12 years.
If a person living in zone 3 wants to install a 6kw system, they will get a rebate of $3,595 as per the following calculation:
6 x 11 x 1.382 = 91 STC
If the current market value of STC is $39.50, then the solar rebate would be:
91 x $39.50 = $3,595
Solar rebate Perth would help to accentuate the installation of solar power systems. It will ensure that the state meets the target of 100% use of renewable energy in homes and businesses by 2030.

Bill Gates-backed liquid metal battery company secures $A200 million
The US company behind a potentially game-changing liquid metal battery technology has raised a further $US144 million towards the commercialisation of its long-duration energy storage solution and the construction of a manufacturing facility.
Massachusetts-based Ambri said the financing round was led by Reliance New Energy Solar, a subsidiary of Indian giant Reliance Industries Limited, and included the company’s largest shareholder, Bill Gates.
Ambri executive chairman Dan Leff said the money raised would be instrumental to scaling the company’s operations and establishing its manufacturing infrastructure – including a US facility – to meet “rapidly expanding customer demand.”
As well as investing in Ambri, Reliance New Energy Solar will also take up a role as a strategic partner to develop and manufacture the company’s batteries in India.
Ambri’s liquid metal battery uses a liquid calcium alloy anode, a molten salt electrolyte and a cathode made from solid particles of antimony, all of which enables the use of low-cost materials and a relatively easy cell assembly process. The containerised batteries range in capacity from between 400kWh and 1,000kWh, up to 250kW and can provide storage lasting from between four to 24 hours, and cater to projects measuring in size from 10MWh to over 2GWh.
The technology promises to overcome existing barriers inherent in current lithium-ion battery technologies – cost, longevity, and safety – and promises a 20-year lifespan. All in all, Ambri-based systems are expected to cost 30% to 50% below equivalent lithium-ion systems from 2022 to 2030.

World’s largest floating solar farm – more than 2GW – to supply Singapore
Singapore’s floating solar PV ambitions continue to grow, with local outfit Sunseap proposing to build a giant 2,200MW project on a reservoir on Indonesia’s Batam Island – the largest of its kind in the world.
The floating solar array, announced following an agreement with the Indonesian government, would be paired with more than 4,000MWh of energy storage, making it one of the world’s largest solar and storage projects – floating or otherwise.
Sunseap said the installation of the $US2 billion solar farm on the Batam Island reservoir, located just 20km from Singapore, would have the added benefit of reducing evaporation from the important fresh-water source and could pave the way for similar scale projects across south-east Asia.
“This hyper-scale project is a significant milestone for Sunseap coming soon after we had completed Singapore’s first offshore floating solar farm along the Straits of Johor,” said Sunseap co-founder and CEO Frank Phuan.
“We believe that floating solar systems will go a long way to address the land constraints that urbanised parts of Southeast Asia face in tapping renewable energy.”

Solar Electric Installers – Gets a Licensed and Accredited Installer For Your Renewable Energy Project
When it comes down to the top three most important qualifications needed to become a successful solar electrician, I found that many solar electrician resumes listed on websites contained hand tools. While only 16.2% of solar electrician resumes listed on websites contained PV, hand tools were the most common tool used by these professionals. This means that you, as a solar electrician looking for your first job, would do well to put together a resume that is all about using hand tools and not solar electrician tools. Just about everyone who signs up for a job as a solar electrician will ask some questions about your background, so make sure that your resume is complete with everything they will need to know about you.
Solar power companies require a degree in either mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, and many of them require certification in either field. Make sure that your resume focuses heavily on talking fluently about solar power panels, PV, and other types of power generation equipment, how to wire them correctly, and what the warranty is for each type of equipment. If you have certification from one of these companies, it will give you a leg up in getting a job. However, without that certification, you might end up competing against much more experienced and talented candidates who have been trained properly. Once you have been through training and gotten your certificate, you should be able to easily list your experiences as an installer for solar power panels, battery banks, DIY windmills, solar hot water systems, and so forth.
Make sure that you also focus heavily on the various aspects of the solar panel system. You may be able to list some of your education with a focus on electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. However, if you want to talk about how you made a great deal of money with solar power panels, PV and other types of energy production, you will need to show prospective employers that you are very knowledgeable about the entire solar system as well as the applications to which it can be put.
Focus on the different things you learned during your training. For example, did you learn anything about the different parts of a solar panel installation? Did you learn anything about thermal insulation? Did you learn anything about DC to AC conversion?
The most important thing is to focus on the different things that you learned. Most solar electric installers do not focus on all the different aspects of solar power production and use. They focus on the off-grid or the grid-tied PV and concentrate on producing and selling enough electricity to be profitable. However, they don’t take into consideration the ways in which they could be making money off the grid as well. If you focus your resume on the different aspects of off-grid solar power production, you’ll have higher chances of getting placed in different companies.
There are many different accreditations available for the people who work for the solar energy system contractor companies. The main accreditation body is the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). The accreditation is given to ensure that the installers have completed the necessary courses and passed the required examinations. You should ask the solar contractor if they belong to this association.
Apart from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) certification, there are also other accrediting bodies that offer licenses to solar electrical contractors. These organizations are the International Solar Contractors’ Association (ISCA) and the Solar Installers Association of America (SIA). These organizations do not give accreditation but instead provide licensing for the installers. Therefore, when you start looking for a good and reliable solar electrical system electrician, you should look out for the licensing as well as the accreditation of these solar energy contractors.
When you contact these installers, you must ask them if they belong to any of the organizations mentioned above. If they do, then it’s good news for you. But if they don’t, you should take your business elsewhere.
